Form I-90: Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card

Form I-90 is filed by lawful permanent residents to renew a 10-year green card that is expiring or expired, replace one that has been lost or stolen, correct data errors, or update the card after a legal name change.

What Form I-90 Is

Form I-90 renews or replaces a permanent resident card. It doesn't grant or extend permanent-resident status — LPR status doesn't expire, the plastic card does. Filing I-90 is required to maintain a valid, unexpired green card, which most employers, financial institutions, and travel authorities want to see.

Conditional residents with 2-year green cards use Form I-751 (not I-90) to remove conditions. I-90 is for the standard 10-year card.

Filing Fee

The USCIS filing fee for Form I-90 is $415 online or $465 paper, plus an $85 biometrics fee — $500 online or $550 paper total. Fee waivers are available for financial hardship (Form I-912).

Frequently Asked Questions About I-90

USCIS recommends filing 6 months before the green card expires. Filing earlier is allowed but the new card won't be issued significantly earlier.
